Automatic Payments & Saved Credit Cards

Mobile Message lets you save a credit card to your account and optionally enable automatic payments. This makes topping up credits faster and helps ensure your account never runs out of SMS credits.

Both settings are managed from Settings > Billing.

Saved credit cards

You can securely save a credit card to your Mobile Message account.

When a card is saved:

  • You do not need to re-enter card details for each purchase
  • The saved card can be used for manual top-ups

Card details are stored securely and are not visible (by you or us) after being saved.

You can update or remove a saved card at any time from Settings > Billing.

Automatic payments

Automatic payments allow your account to top up credits automatically when your balance gets low.

This is ideal for businesses sending SMS regularly or running ongoing campaigns.

How automatic payments work

When automatic payments are enabled:

  • You choose a trigger level (credit balance threshold)
  • You choose a top-up amount (number of credits to purchase)
  • The system checks your account balance every minute
  • If your balance falls below the trigger level, a top-up is processed automatically
  • If you start a send that costs more than your remaining balance, the top-up runs immediately so the send isn't interrupted
  • Credits are added immediately once payment is successful

You can set up automatic payments from Settings > Billing, or by ticking the automatic top-up option when buying credits on the Add Credits page.

During setup you can also nominate a backup card. If your primary card is declined, we try the backup so your top-up still goes through.

This ensures your messaging can continue without manual intervention.

Choosing the right trigger level

It is important to set your trigger level high enough.

If an automatic payment fails for any reason, such as a bank decline or temporary card issue, you should still have enough credits available while the issue is resolved.

A higher trigger level gives you a buffer and reduces the risk of running out of credits unexpectedly.

Payment failures and notifications

If an automatic payment fails, such as a bank decline or temporary card issue:

  • We email you after the first failed attempt so you can check your card early
  • The payment is retried automatically, 6 hours after the first failure and again 24 hours after the second
  • If you have a backup card saved, it is tried as part of each attempt
  • A successful retry clears the issue and no further action is needed
  • If the third attempt also fails, automatic payments are paused and we email you an action required notice with a link that restores them in one click

You can also update your card details and re-enable automatic payments at any time from Settings > Billing.

Managing automatic payments

You can:

  • Enable or disable automatic payments at any time
  • Change the trigger level
  • Change the top-up amount
  • Update or remove your saved credit card

All settings are managed from Settings > Billing.

Automatic payments are designed to keep your account running smoothly, especially for businesses that rely on SMS as a critical communication channel.
