The Partner Program
The Partner Program pays you for introducing new customers to Mobile Message. When a business signs up through your referral link, you earn 20% of what they spend on SMS credits for the next 24 months.
It is free to join and open to any Australian business with an ABN. Agencies, consultants, developers and integrators use it for the clients they set up, and plenty of existing customers use it for the recommendations they were making anyway.
How to activate it
The Partner Program is set up from inside your Mobile Message account, under Partner Program in the left menu.
Only the account owner can activate it, because it involves your ABN and your bank details. Team members on the Admin role can open the page and see the figures once it is running, but the owner login is needed to switch it on and to change the bank details. If you do not have a Mobile Message account yet, sign up for one first and then activate.
To activate, enter your ABN and click Look up. We check it against the Australian Business Register and fill in your entity name and your GST registration, so there is nothing for you to tell us about GST. Tick to accept the Partner Program Terms, and activate.
Your referral link
As soon as you activate, your referral link appears at the top of the Partner Program page. It looks like this:
https://mobilemessage.com.au/r/ABCD2345
Use it anywhere you would normally point someone at us. A proposal, an email to a client, a page on your own website, a tutorial.
When someone clicks it we store a cookie in their browser for 60 days. If they register a Mobile Message account within those 60 days, that account becomes your referral. Tracking is last click, so if a visitor clicks a different partner's link after yours, the most recent click is the one that counts.
Existing Mobile Message customers cannot become referrals. The program is for new customers only.
How commission builds up
Commission is 20% of what your referred customer pays for SMS credits, excluding GST, and it runs for 24 months from the date they signed up. There is no minimum spend, so it starts on their very first purchase.
A $500 credit purchase, excluding GST, earns you $100. Every purchase counts, not just the first one, so a customer who buys credits every month earns you commission every month for two years.
Some payments do not earn commission. Custom negotiated pricing, dedicated numbers, free or promotional credits, and refunded amounts all sit outside the program. Anything funded from your own partner balance does not earn commission either.
The 30-day pending period
New commission is recorded as pending for 30 days, then it becomes available.
The wait covers the window in which a payment can be refunded or charged back. If the underlying purchase is refunded while the commission is still pending, the commission comes off before it ever becomes available. If it is refunded later, a reversal is recorded against your balance instead.
Only available commission can be paid out or spent.
Getting paid, or spending it on SMS
You have two ways to take your available balance, and you can mix them.
Request a bank payout once your available balance reaches $100 excluding GST. Payouts go by bank transfer to an Australian bank account in the name of the entity on your partner profile, and we process them manually. You can add or change your bank details on the Partner Program page, and for security the owner confirms the change with their account password.
Or apply your balance towards your own SMS credits, with no minimum at all. Any amount can go straight back into sending, so you do not have to wait to reach $100 to use what you have earned.
GST and invoices
We check your GST registration on the Australian Business Register when you activate and before each payout. GST is added to your commission only while your ABN shows as registered, so a $100 commission becomes $110 for a registered partner. Your partner settings show the status we hold and the date we last checked it, and there is a Refresh from ABR button there if you want to check it yourself.
You do not need to raise an invoice for it. We issue a recipient created tax invoice for the commission, which is a valid tax invoice you can use in your own records. Keep your details on the Australian Business Register up to date and the right GST treatment follows on its own.
Commission is income, so it is worth talking to your accountant about how it should be treated.
Where to see your history
Everything is on the Partner Program page in your account.
The referrals tab lists the customers attributed to you, when they signed up, whether the referral is still within its 24 months, and how much each one has earned you. The commission history tab shows every entry, including pending amounts, reversals, payouts and any balance you have put towards credits. The payouts tab shows each payout you have requested, its status, and when it was paid.
To protect our customers' privacy, the referrals tab shows only the business name, the signup date, the referral status and the commission figures. No other details about a referred account are shown.
If something looks wrong
Email partners@mobilemessage.com.au and tell us what you are looking at. Raise it within 30 days of the transaction appearing in your partner dashboard, or of the commission statement it appears on, so we can check it against our tracking and payment records while everything is still fresh.
The full rules, including how referrals are attributed, what you may and may not do when promoting us, and how reversals work, are in the Partner Program Terms.
