SMS Pricing Explained

This article explains exactly how Mobile Message SMS pricing works. It covers SMS credits, introductory pricing, standard pricing tiers, GST, dedicated numbers, and why many businesses make a larger first purchase to maximise value.

Updated today

Mobile Message uses simple, transparent SMS pricing designed for Australian businesses. There are no monthly fees, no lock-in contracts, and no hidden charges.

You purchase SMS credits when you need them, and credits never expire.

What is an SMS credit?

One SMS credit equals one standard national SMS message of up to 160 characters.

If your message is longer than 160 characters, it is automatically split into multiple parts and uses additional credits based on the total length of the message.

Why Mobile Message uses credits

Credits make pricing simple and flexible.

They allow you to:

  • Pay only for what you use

  • Buy credits in advance with no expiry

  • Access lower per-SMS pricing at higher volumes

  • Avoid monthly minimums or recurring fees

Credits also make it easy to budget for campaigns and scale usage without changing plans.

Introductory pricing (first purchase)

Your first SMS credit purchase will be charged at 2 cents per SMS (excluding GST).

This introductory rate applies to your entire first purchase, regardless of how many credits you buy.

Many businesses choose to make a larger first purchase to take full advantage of this pricing, as it locks in the lowest possible cost per SMS for all credits in that initial purchase.

Standard SMS pricing (after first purchase)

After your first purchase, standard pricing applies. Pricing is volume-based, meaning the cost per SMS decreases as you purchase larger credit bundles.

Free dedicated number

After your first SMS credit purchase, your account includes one free dedicated SMS number.

This number allows full two-way SMS, meaning you can:

  • Send messages

  • Receive replies directly in the Mobile Message platform

  • Reply back to customers from the same number

The first dedicated number is included at no additional cost.

Additional dedicated numbers

If you require more than one dedicated number, additional numbers are available at a fixed annual cost.

  • Additional dedicated number: $100 per year (ex GST)

This is an optional cost. Most businesses do not need multiple dedicated numbers.

No hidden fees

Mobile Message pricing is fully transparent.

There are:

  • No setup fees

  • No monthly account fees

  • No API access fees

  • No charges for inbound SMS replies

  • No expiry on credits

You remain in control of your spend at all times.
