Email-to-SMS allows you to send SMS messages by simply sending an email.
This is useful for systems, alerts, or workflows where email is already supported and you want those messages delivered as SMS.
Email-to-SMS settings are managed from Settings > Email To SMS.
Setting up authorised email senders
For security and abuse prevention, only authorised email addresses can send Email-to-SMS messages.
To get started:
Go to Settings > Email To SMS
Add the email address you want to send messages from as an authorised sender.
Save your changes
Only email addresses listed here will be allowed to send SMS messages.
How to send an Email-to-SMS message
Once your email address is authorised, sending an SMS is simple.
Step 1: Create a new email
Send the email from an authorised email address.
Step 2: Enter the recipient mobile number
In the To field, enter the mobile number followed by:
@sms.mobilemessage.com.au
Example: [email protected]
The format of the phone number can be either 04xxxxxxxx or 614xxxxxxxx.
Step 3: Subject line
The subject line:
Can contain anything, or
Can be left completely blank
The subject line is ignored for SMS delivery.
Step 4: Write your message content
Write the SMS content in the body of the email.
Important limits:
Only the first 1530 characters of the email body will be sent
Anything beyond this limit will be discarded
Plain text only
Email-to-SMS supports plain text only.
The following will be removed automatically:
Images
Emojis
Attachments
HTML formatting
Rich text styling
Only the raw text content is delivered as an SMS.
If your email client adds an automatic signature, make sure to remove it unless you want it included in the SMS message.
Example: sending to a single number
From: [email protected]
Body: Hello, this is a test message.
This email will be converted into an SMS and delivered to the mobile number.
When to use Email-to-SMS
Email-to-SMS is ideal for:
System alerts
Monitoring notifications
Simple integrations
Tools that only support email delivery
For advanced features like personalisation, templates, scheduling, or opt-out handling, sending messages directly through the Mobile Message platform is recommended.
Troubleshooting tips
If your message is not delivered:
Confirm the sending email address is authorised
Check the mobile number format in the To field
Ensure the message is plain text
Confirm your account has sufficient SMS credits
