Saving and Using Message Templates

Learn how to create, save, and reuse SMS message templates in Mobile Message, including adding customer name tags and sending messages using templates.

Updated today

Message templates let you save SMS content that you send regularly, such as order updates, reminders, or notifications. Templates save time, reduce mistakes, and ensure consistent messaging.

A video walkthrough is available at the top of this article.

Creating a message template

To create a new template:

  1. Click Templates in the main menu

  2. Click Add Template

  3. Enter a template name so you can easily recognise it later

  4. Write the message content

Template names are for internal use only and are not visible to message recipients.

Adding customer details to templates

You can personalise templates using contact fields, such as a customer’s first name.

To add a name:

  1. Click Add Tags

  2. Select First Name (or another available field)

The tag will be inserted into the message content. When the template is used, each recipient will see their own name.

Example:

  • Template content:
Hi First Name , your order is ready for collection.

  • Delivered message:
Hi Graham, your order is ready for collection.

If a contact does not have a value for a field, that part of the message will be left blank.

Saving the template

Once you are happy with the content:

  1. Review the message

  2. Click Save Template

Your template is now stored and ready to use.

Using a message template

To send a message using a saved template:

  1. Go to Send Messages

  2. Click Templates next to the message box

  3. Select the template you want to use

The message content will be inserted automatically.

From here, all that’s left to do is:

  • Select the recipient (individual contact or list)

  • Choose the sender

  • Send the message

Editing templates

You can update templates at any time by returning to the Templates section, selecting a template, making changes, and saving it again.

Changes apply to future messages only and do not affect messages that have already been sent.

Why templates are useful

Message templates are ideal if you:

  • Send the same message regularly

  • Want consistent wording across your team

  • Use personalisation like customer names

  • Want to save time when sending messages

Templates help streamline your workflow while still allowing personalised, professional SMS communication.
